Where your ship actually docks matters

Amsterdam has reduced the number of sea cruises calling at its central terminal, and more ships now berth at IJmuiden or in the western harbour instead. Both are 45 to 60 minutes from the city, which turns what passengers expect to be a short walk into a transport problem.

That is good news if you have a vehicle waiting and bad news if you were planning to take a shuttle and improvise. Pick your port below.

How we handle the timing

Every excursion is planned to return you to the ship ninety minutes before all-aboard. Not thirty, not sixty. Ships do not wait, and a private operator who misses a sailing has to put passengers on a train to the next port at their own cost — which is a strong incentive to build in a buffer and hold it.

We ask for your ship name, port, berth time and all-aboard time when you book, and we check the port schedule ourselves rather than relying on what the itinerary says.

Questions

What happens if the ship is delayed?

We track the arrival. If the ship berths late we shorten the route rather than cancel it, and the price does not change. If it misses the port entirely you pay nothing.

Will we definitely be back in time?

We plan the return for ninety minutes before your all-aboard time, not for the all-aboard time itself. That buffer is not negotiable, even if you would rather have another half hour somewhere.

Is this cheaper than the ship's own excursion?

For a group of four or more, usually yes, because the cruise line charges per person and we charge per vehicle. For a couple it is often more expensive and we will say so rather than pretend otherwise.
