IJmuiden shore excursions
The Felison Terminal is an hour from Amsterdam and twenty-five minutes from the windmills. Which way you go should depend on how long your ship is in port.
Three ways to spend a call at IJmuiden
The windmills and a village. Zaanse Schans is 25 minutes from the terminal, which makes it far better value from IJmuiden than from Amsterdam. Add Broek in Waterland or Edam and you have a full, unhurried day without ever entering a city. This is what we recommend for a six-hour call.
Amsterdam. An hour each way, leaving three hours in the city on a six-hour call. Enough for a canal walk and one museum if you have booked the ticket in advance. Not enough for both plus lunch.
Haarlem and the coast. Twenty minutes away: a proper Dutch city with a cathedral, a market square and almost no cruise passengers, plus the dunes and the beach at Bloemendaal. The quiet option.

Questions
How far is IJmuiden from Amsterdam?
About 30 kilometres, which is 45 minutes without traffic and up to an hour in the morning. The terminal itself is in the port area with very little around it, so most passengers want to leave it.
Can we do both Amsterdam and the windmills?
In a seven-hour call, yes, but one of them gets two hours rather than three. We usually suggest windmills and a village, because a rushed two hours in central Amsterdam is worse than none.
Do you meet us at the terminal?
Yes, in the arrivals area of the Felison Terminal with a name sign, at whatever time you clear the ship.
