A layover is enough time

Six hours between flights is three hours in the Dutch countryside, with your bags in the van and someone whose only job is getting you back to departures on time.

Why almost nobody offers this

Tour companies operate from the city and cannot get to the airport and back inside your window. Transfer companies will drive you anywhere but will not plan a day. This sits between the two, and it works because we own the vehicle and the driver stays with you the entire time.

It also works because of luggage. Every other option for a layover involves either airport lockers or leaving your bags somewhere. Here they are in the van, which removes the part that makes people decide not to bother.

What you can realistically see

Zaanse Schans is 30 minutes from the airport, which makes it the obvious choice: working windmills, a clog workshop, a cheese farm, and you are back with time in hand. Haarlem is 20 minutes and gives you a real Dutch city with a cathedral and a market square. Central Amsterdam is possible but it is the worst value — half your time goes on traffic and parking.

We will tell you which of the three fits your actual window when you send us your flight numbers.

How a six-hour layover breaks down

  1. You land

We are tracking the flight and are already at the airport.

  2. Through passport control and out

Longer if you are arriving from outside Schengen. We meet you in Arrivals 3 with a name sign.

  3. On the road

Bags in the van. Nothing to carry for the rest of the day.

  4. First stop

Zaanse Schans or Haarlem, depending on what we agreed. Around two and a half hours.

  5. Back towards the airport

Thirty minutes, with a stop for coffee or a bakery if the timing allows.

  6. Dropped at departures

With at least ninety minutes before your flight, and more if your connection is longer.

What is included

  • Private vehicle and driver for the full window
  • Meet and greet in Arrivals with a name sign
  • Flight tracking, so a delay is our problem not yours
  • Luggage kept secure in the vehicle throughout
  • Fuel, tolls, parking and all road costs
  • Full deposit refund if your inbound delay makes the tour unsafe

What is not included

  • Windmill or museum entry
  • Food and drinks
  • Any visa you may need to leave the transit area
  • Gratuity

Before you book: check whether your passport allows you to enter the Schengen area. Some nationalities need a visa even for a few hours outside the terminal. We cannot check this for you and it is the one thing that stops a layover tour going ahead.

Questions

How much time do I need between flights?

Six hours is the minimum we will accept, and that gives you around three hours outside the airport. Eight hours is comfortable. Below six we will tell you to stay in the terminal rather than sell you a tour you will spend worrying about.

What happens to our luggage?

It stays locked in the vehicle with us, which is the main reason this works. If you are transferring on a single ticket your hold bags go through anyway and you only have cabin bags to think about.

Do we need to clear immigration?

If you are arriving from outside the Schengen area, yes, and you will need to pass passport control again on the way back. We build that into the timing. Check your own visa position before booking — some passports need a Schengen visa even for a short exit.

What if my inbound flight is late?

We track the flight number and adjust. If the delay makes the tour unsafe for your connection we cancel and refund the deposit in full. We would rather lose the booking than your flight.
