Shopping day
Roermond, With Somewhere to Put the Bags
Two hundred brands in one place, an hour and three quarters from your hotel, and a vehicle waiting in the car park that you can keep loading all day.
Designer Outlet RoermondLimburg, Netherlands
The part nobody mentions is the boot
Designer Outlet Roermond is the largest outlet in the Netherlands and the second largest in Europe: roughly two hundred stores, laid out as open streets rather than a mall, about an hour and three quarters south-east of Amsterdam.
You can get there by train in two and a half hours with a change. What you cannot do on a train is drop four bags off halfway through the afternoon and go back for more. Your driver stays in the car park with the vehicle unlocked to you all day, which turns a shopping trip with luggage into a shopping trip without any.
It also means you are not timing your day around a return service. We leave when you are finished.
The day, with times
Standard timing. Everything after pickup can shift — if you want a later return, tell us on the morning.
Pickup at your hotel
Anywhere in Amsterdam. Straight out on the A2 towards Utrecht and Eindhoven.
Arrive at the outlet
Before the coach parties and before the car park fills. We park close to the entrance and stay there.
The first run
Around two hours. Bring what you buy back to the vehicle whenever you like rather than carrying it.
Lunch
Several places on site, and a couple of decent ones just outside if you would rather not eat in a food court.
The second run
Another two and a half hours. This is when the outlet is at its busiest, so the earlier start pays off.
Roermond old town, optional
Ten minutes away. The Munsterkerk, the market square and cafés along the water — a better end to the day than another hour in the car park, and it costs nothing extra.
Drive back
An hour and three quarters. Bags stay where they are.
Back at your hotel
Door to door, with everything carried in for you.

Who this is not for
If you are two people travelling light and price matters more than convenience, take the train. It is two and a half hours with one change and it costs a fraction of this. We would rather tell you that than have you feel this was not worth it.
Where it does pay: four or more people, a serious shopping day, or anyone who does not want to spend the return journey guarding luggage.
Questions
Is this cheaper than the train?
No. A return train ticket is around €60 for two people and this starts at €675 for the vehicle. What you are paying for is the boot: you shop without carrying anything, we load it as you go, and you are not standing on a platform at Roermond station with eight bags.
How long do we actually get at the outlet?
About four and a half hours of the eight. The drive is 1 hour 45 each way. If you would rather have five hours there and a later return, say so when you book — it costs nothing to shift.
Can we leave bags in the car during the day?
Yes, and most people do. Your driver stays with the vehicle in the outlet car park, so you can drop a load and go back in. That is the main reason to do this by car at all.
Which days should we avoid?
Saturdays and the German school holidays. Roermond draws heavily from across the border, the car park fills by late morning and the aisles get slow. Tuesday to Thursday is a different place.
Is there anything to see besides the outlet?
Roermond itself is a proper old town ten minutes away — the Munsterkerk, a market square, cafés on the water. If shopping finishes early we drive you in rather than sitting in the car park.
Can you take more than seven people?
Not in one vehicle. For a larger group we run a second one and quote it; tell us the number and we will come back with a price.
