Belgium
Brussels, Door to Door
Two hours south, a UNESCO square that stops people mid-sentence, and a driver who waits while you take as long as you like over it.
BrusselsBelgium
The route from Amsterdam
~210 km, about 2 hours each way. For comparison, Eurostar runs direct in roughly 1 hour 50 minutes.
Brussels is two hours from your hotel by road, and this is one of the rare routes where we will tell you the train is quicker. Eurostar does Amsterdam to Brussels-Midi in roughly an hour and fifty minutes, direct, several times a day.
So why drive? Three reasons, and if none of them apply to you, take the train and we will say so on the phone. You are a group of five or more, where rail tickets stop being cheap. You want to stop somewhere on the way — Antwerp is directly en route and worth ninety minutes. Or you want door to door, with luggage or limited mobility, without Brussels-Midi in the middle of it.
Why take a private driver
What a private day adds here is the ability to leave the centre. The Atomium is twenty minutes north and awkward by public transport. Waterloo is twenty minutes south. The Royal Museums, the Art Nouveau houses in Ixelles, the beer halls out of the tourist ring — all of it is a short drive and a long tram ride.
A sample day
This is how we would plan it. Nothing here is fixed — the point of a private day is that it bends to you.

Anywhere in Amsterdam.
Optional stop in Antwerp
Directly on the route. The station hall alone is worth twenty minutes.
Arrive in Brussels
We set you down near the Grand Place; the centre is largely pedestrian.
Grand Place and the old centre
The guild houses, the Town Hall, the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert. Manneken Pis is two minutes away and smaller than everyone expects.
Lunch
Away from the Grand Place, where the terraces are priced for tourists.
Mont des Arts and the upper town
The view back over the city, the Royal Palace and the museums quarter.

Questions
Is the train not faster?
Yes, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Eurostar is about an hour and fifty minutes direct. Drive with us if you are a larger group, if you want to stop on the way, or if door to door matters more than speed. For two people on a budget, take the train.
Can we stop in Antwerp?
Yes, and it costs nothing extra — it is directly on the route. Ninety minutes gives you the Grote Markt, the cathedral and the station hall.
Do we need anything for the low emission zone?
No. Brussels operates a camera-enforced low emission zone, but Dutch-registered vehicles are checked automatically against the RDW register, so there is nothing for you to arrange.
How much time do we actually get in the city?
Around six hours on a ten-hour day, which is enough for the centre, lunch and one thing outside it.
