How this works

You tell us three things: which cities, how many days, and how many of you there are. We come back with a route, realistic driving times and a price per vehicle. If the route does not work we say so before you have paid anything — that is the most useful thing we do at this stage.

Routes people ask for

Examples, not fixed products. Each of these would be quoted on its own.

  • Amsterdam → Bruges. Around eleven hours. We publish this one: from €950.
  • Amsterdam → Brussels. About ten hours, two hours each way.
  • Amsterdam → Cologne. About ten hours, two hours forty each way.
  • Amsterdam → Düsseldorf. About ten hours, two hours twenty each way.
  • Belgium over two days. Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp with a night in Flanders.
  • Germany over two days. Cologne, Aachen and the Rhine, with a night on the river.

What we will talk you out of

Paris in a day. Five hours each way for four hours in the city is ten hours of motorway, and we would rather send you to the station. The same goes for anything beyond roughly twelve hours of driving and touring in one go — past that it stops being a good day and starts being endurance.

We will also tell you when the train is simply better. Brussels and Düsseldorf both have fast direct services from Amsterdam, and for two people going city-centre to city-centre they win.

Questions

How is a European day priced?

By the hours, the distance and the vehicle. We quote each route individually rather than publishing a figure we would have to correct — send us the outline and you get a price in writing before anything is paid.

Can you do more than one day?

Yes. We quote per day and you arrange your own hotels, which works out cheaper than a package. Tell us the days and the regions.

What is the longest day you will drive?

About twelve hours. Beyond that it stops being a good day out and starts being a long drive with a tired driver, which is not something we will sell you.

Which routes do you turn down?

Paris, at five hours each way. Ten hours of driving for four hours in a city is not a day trip. If you want Paris we will say so and suggest the train.
